Graduating in time?!

Hello everyone,

I’m new around here and trying to make some points clear to myself. So sorry for a few and maybe trivial questions. ;)

I am still a medical student at an European medical school. To be eligible to apply for residency programs I need to acquire an ECFMG certification. Therefore I need Step 1, Step 2 CK&CS AND my medical diploma. Right so far?

I want to apply for residency in 2017. I am going to graduate at the end of August/beginning of September that year after finishing my last elective. I will already have all required Steps by that time. So the only thing left is verifying my medical credentials, right?

Now I have just read that this verification process takes at least a few weeks or even months. So I will probably not have my ECFMG certification by the beginning of the application process (mid-September?). Is this going to be a severe disadvantage, if it could take until Nov or Dec until I can apply, as some programs are said to arrange interviews on a first-come-first-served-basis?

The last thing I want is losing another year by beeing unable to match due to graduating late…

Thank you very much for your help and any advice! :)
