amount validity

i have paid for ecfmg certification the amount (xyz) prior to online exam application. Now if i delay to completye the online application form and pay stap 1 fees, will the (xyz) amount be wasted? is there any limit until that amount will expire as i did not knw that i will have to pay step 1 fees before form 186.

Plz help
